Cultural Practitioner and Artist

Ranu is a passionate advocate for sharing her Papuan cultural heritage through music, dance, storytelling, and craft. Her international performances, particularly in traditional Pacific song and dance with groups like Drum Drum and Sunameke, showcase her deep connection to her roots. Ranu also has a background in classical flute performance, gracing stages with orchestras like the Darwin Symphony, Preston Symphony, and Sunshine Coast Symphony Orchestra.

Ranu is a skilled costume maker, preserving and reviving traditional attire with materials available in Australia. As a facilitator of Brisbane's Pacific Women's Weaving Circle, she fosters cultural exchange and teaches weaving techniques. Her collaborative works, such as "Island Fashion," have been featured in prominent art galleries, highlighting her commitment to cultural expression.

In her role as a community weaver, Ranu hosts workshops on weaving and bilas creation, providing a space for Papua New Guinean women to connect and create together. Through her art and teaching, Ranu embodies the spirit of cultural preservation and community engagement.

​

Beyond her artistic talents, Ranu is a dedicated educator with a Master of Education in International Studies. With over 30 years of experience, including 19 years working with children, families, and educators in remote Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory, she deeply understands the importance of cultural maintenance and practice.

​

Ranu has devoted many years to mentoring, teaching, and professionally guiding early childhood educators. She collaborates with them growing their cultural proficiency and supporting them to integrate cultural perspectives into their environments, services, and professional practices.

​

Ranu excels in professional and creative writing, particularly in developing accessible and culturally relevant early childhood resources. She notably contributed to the Remote Indigenous Professional Development Package for the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia. Additionally, Ranu is the proud author of a growing number of children's storybooks.
